The Franciscan Spirit and Life Center is pleased to announce thier winter series of introductory and advanced Tai Chi classes, taught by Gurney Bolster, MA, DTR, who holds the Instructor Certification from the Tai Chi for Health Institute and is a Certified Movement Analyst. For years she has been leading weekly classes throughout the South Hills in fitness and wellness including Tai Chi, Aerobics and Resistance work for active adults age 50 and up to develop/maintain flexibility, balance, strength and vitality.
Tai Chi is a physical art form which focuses on gentle, flowing movement and centered, relaxed posture. The health benefits of Tai Chi as people age have been well documented. These include improvement in balance, gait and coordination; increase in muscle strength; better focus and concentration; lower blood pressure; stress reduction and opportunities for social interaction. Regular practice of tai chi has been shown to be effective for fall prevention and improvement of psychological health.
